Deutche Welle talks attendance smack

It's everywhere you go (via John Guppy):

Last season, Bundesliga games attracted nearly 7,000 more fans per game on average than the Premiership. The Bundesliga has actually surpassed the Premier League in attendance for each of the past five seasons.

Even more shocking, especially to English soccer snobs who rate their league higher than any other, the Bundesliga is the best supported domestic league in the world, based on regular attendance.

The main point of the article is that the Bundesliga attracts huge crowds by offering massively discounted, or as some would say, reasonably priced, season ticket packages. But the best part is lines like "most of the top Bundesliga teams regularly play in front of sell-out crowds which help to create an electric atmosphere which some of the Premiership's clubs, with their soulless and cavernous stadiums, would die for."

sure the german atmosphere is fantastic. they have cheap beer available during games.

but seriously. WTF?

of course Bundesliga has very high attendance. their average stadium holds 50k. only 2 in the EPL have capacity over 50k.

"Premiership's ... cavernous stadiums"? seriously? First, they are not cavernous. More often than not they are small and intimate. Bundesliga has the giant stadiums. Also, for the most part many of the EPL stadiums are mostly full as seen here:

i thought everyone already knew this

to my ears and senses the general german game atmosphere blows away the english version

on the other hand we all know how popular the english league is on tv compared to all others

The problem is that everyone looks at revenue, and yeah the Bundesliga doesn't pull in as much for whatever reason. Obviously that's not the whole story.
