Akron Zips advance to NCAA finals vs. Virginia, but winning streak is over

Because the game is officially recorded as a tie:

The game technically ended in a tie, ending Akron's attempt to become the first team in 35 years to win the national championship with a perfect record, and the first ever to go 24 games without a loss to start the season.

In a knockout tournament like the NCAA's, that sure seems like a load of crap.

I don't see how it's crap. They played 110 minutes of soccer and nobody won. That's a tie.

Then they did a penalty kick shootout to determine who advanced in the tournament. That was Akron. But Akron did not win the soccer match. They won a penalty kick shootout. Those are two totally different things.

I should add that I am fairly certain that that is the procedure in FIFA and around the globe. PK matches are recorded as ties because the actual soccer match ended in a tie.
