Collective bargaining news out of Seattle gets more bizarre

Creepy Jose Romero with a followup to yesterday's post (which I discussed here):

Some things to ponder:

-MLS, according to an unnamed source, wants a five-year deal for the next CBA.

That is intriguing.

-For all intents and purposes, it appears the Sounders FC ownership has tried to be fair with the players but is keeping its distance from the negotiations.

But didn't you just say yesterday that Seattle has additional sway as "the most successful club in MLS after one season of existence"? Did someone from management finally ring you and straighten you out?

There was an issue between players, owners and the league when the Sounders played Chelsea and FC Barcelona. The players negotiated a per-player bonus for appearing in the friendlies and the owners agreed to pay those sums. But I'm told that the league intervened and at that time blocked the payment of those bonuses by the team, and that some players are still wondering where their bonus money is.

Again, this is fascinating, although it sounds as though some players got their money. For what it's worth, I don't have that money.

Let's not forget that USL, the rogue NASL and MLS are all on shaky ground right now. Which makes it more imperative that a lockout be avoided.

Do tell how the MLS is on shaky ground. Really, I'm fascinated by your yet undisclosed hypothesis as to how that is true.

Said players union rep James Riley: "We're not concerned at the moment because we're doing everything right...We feel very strong with our stand. We told guys throughout the year to be ready for a lockout."

You're fucking it all up by bitching to the media about FIFA rights that most people don't understand and that isn't increasing any pressure on the owners one bit as of today.

As much as I feel the players have real grievances, I'd love to know what kind of creative proposal other than fundamentally restructuring MLS that they've put forward to solve the issue.
