Overall, the coolest part of this camp was being able participate in Read for America. Read for America is a volunteer program where “celebrities” go to a local school and read a couple books to some classrooms. We ended up heading to Compton, which was a bit different than Manhattan Beach where we were staying.
. . .
Oh and we also got to meet Drew Carey which was awesome. I tried to get some tickets to the Wheel of Fortune but wasn’t going to be back the next week to accept them, darn
Mwa. This gave me an idea. So I called up Drew and said, Hey buddy, what's up? And he's like, Sigi, my man, what is going on? And I say, hey, can I get some tickets to that game show you do . . . what is it? Wheel of Fortune? I love that show.
And he's like, no, I'm not on Wheel of Fortune, I'm on Price is Right.
I totally love Wheel of Fortune, I say, I love it when you tell people to spin the wheel, and then they think they're going to guess a letter, and they end up on Bankrupt! It's so cool!
Drew says, no, that's Pat Sajak.
And man, Vanna White is still on there too, that's awesome.
No douchebag, he shouts, it's not my fucking show!
Oh. Well, that's cool I say. What do you do again?
The Price is Right!
I thought that was Bob Barker?
Bob Barker retired three fucking years ago! I do it now!
Oh. Well, Ella Masar told me you did Wheel of Fortune.
No, she . . . what?
Ella Masar. You know. Compton, books and all that.
What, do you want me to get mad at her?
No, I'm just saying where I heard it.
Well, yeah, she asked for tickets . . .
And you didn't correct her?
Well, no, she wasn't going to be in town anyway, so . . .
You're a total asshole, Drew.
There wasn't time . . . .
Why are you such a jerk?
Takes one to know one pal. Score some fucking goals next year, all right?
And he hung up.
So then I called up Pat Sajak, who lives around the corner from me in Manhattan Beach, and Pat was rolling. He said he'd call Drew up later and tell him he heard he was hosting Wheel of Fortune, and would ask why hadn't he told him about it yet. Anyway, this is too much fun.
