Google ads

Just a heads up that I'll be activating google ads somewhere on the site in the next day or so. I've heard that adsense is fairly accurate when it comes to recording page impressions, so the goal is collecting data that I can compare to my Analytics information.

Long time readers will remember the ads were in place early in the summer, but I took them down because there just wasn't enough traffic for them to mean anything, and they annoyed me. Over the period the ads are up, I'll be interested to see if they generate any revenue. As in, anything at all. Right now I'm pretty convinced that they're not a long term solution for funding this sort of blog.

Anyway, just a heads up. Feel free to complain in the comments.

Money grubbing bastard sellout.

Why don't you just grovel and beg for it, like The Greatest Blogger in All of Canada does?

Ha.

Hating on Duane because he makes money at what Sigi and the like can only dream about.

Jokes. The difference is Duane provides useful, interesting content whereas Sigi just shits on everyone.

I suppose that some of what Duane does would fall within the definition of "interesting." But please guys, he's like the Candyman, let's not say his name three times or he'll have to comment here.

As for what I do, you should spend some more time reading this blog if you think all that goes on is shitting on other bloggers.

Interesting content, keep going. I'd rather see ads than journalists, even those at odds, soliciting for donations.

The free press provides an essential service and why/how it's being phased out is historical. How readers no longer are aware of the distinction between PR and press is troubling.

If it's journalistic ethics you're after, check out what's been going on in the comments of Dan's column from yesterday if you haven't already seen it. It's an interesting discussion to say the least.

I'd rather have relevant, non-intrusive ads on the site than constantly ask readers for donations. If readers want to donate that's great, but I'd rather avoid that being this blog's business model if I can.
