Checketts on the labor conflict

Via Bill Archer, Dave Checketts reveals that the owners have a strike contingency plan that sounds an awful lot like using replacement players:

"I just came from a meeting with several owners and the commissioner down here in Los Angeles, and we know exactly what we'll do. These are all owners who've been in the NBA, they've been in the NHL, some of them own Major League Baseball teams even today. We know what we'll do. We have a plan if the players strike," said Checketts.

"I just hope the players understand the implication of the threats they're making to strike because if they do in fact go on strike, then that forces the owners to do something very aggressive and very different."

Puts that video from last week in a whole new light, doesn't it?

Replacement players wouldn't violate the MLS promise to lock out the players, but it would still be pretty evil. There have also been rumors floating around of administrative staff furloughs, which would seem to imply that replacement players would not be used.

At this point, who knows. I'm guessing the owners won't go nuclear until the players do.

I'll be pissed if they strike, but what kind of fuckward would cross the line or pay to watch them play?
